Everybody I speak to always asks questions about competition. Once in a while you get that old question, “well my competitor is targeting this keyword” or “my competitor is ranking for this phrase.” However, often times the keywords or phrases your competition is ranking for isn’t the best quality keyword. In fact, I’ve seen numerous times where the keywords that our client’s competitors are targeting don’t bring any quality traffic at all.

How can I analyze the competition for hyper local SEO?

That should be a question in your mind at all times. Start off with keyword research. What pages does your competition have that they are ranking for? Example – local plumber in Glenside wanted to target not only “Philadelphia” and “Glenside”, but start a hyper local SEO campaign. We analyzed the competition to determine what hyper local keywords would make sense for our client. The tools provided for most digital marketers out there may not display this data and that is why we have to do some manual researching to help figure out the hyper local SEO campaign strategy. It isn’t always as easy as going through your competition. You must know the area really well.

My competitor is targeting national and local keywords. Can I target national and local?

Yes, of course you can, we have a few clients that love this type of strategy. This is called a hybrid SEO campaign. This makes sense if you can service the local area as well as national. This is a great method to get quick wins in SEO for the local side while you continue building towards the more difficult, national keywords.

My competitor is a huge company, how can I compete?

Easy, lower hanging fruit. This is a great example of hyper local and hybrid SEO campaigns. You need to identify what people are searching for before you can determine your SEO strategy. We have 30+ clients in the Philadelphia area and only some of them compete with big companies such as Amazon, Ebay, Bank of America and Fidelity.

Another SEO company is telling me I need $10,000/mo for SEO, how can I understand if I am getting my moneys worth?

SEO isn’t just a single product. We have clients ranging from $500/mo to $20,000/mo. We don’t package our customers based off of industry or number of employees. We work within the budget constraints of our clients. We analyze the competition and want to make sure what we can offer is aligned with the goals of the company. To see if you are getting your moneys worth, you will want to request for a body of work to help understand what is being done on a monthly basis. If you feel you are being slighted for your budget, you may want to speak up.

All of our customers at SEO Locale get the best treatment possible, we don’t care if you spend $500/mo or $20,000/mo. We care about the growth of your company and we show it in our monthly reports. If you are interested in learning more about how you can beat your competition online, give us a call.
