Google cuts titles and descriptions by pixel width, not character count, and it cuts them differently on a phone. Type yours in and watch the result page render as you go.
- Desktop and mobile, measured in pixels
- Breadcrumb built from the URL, the way Google shows it
- Runs in your browser. Nothing uploaded
Title ≈ 580 px · Description ≈ 920 px About 60 characters and 155 characters on desktop, but a title full of capitals and Ws runs out of room much sooner than one full of lowercase l's and i's. That is why this measures pixels.
How it shows in Google
A title is a promise. Keep it.
The service and the place first, the brand last. "Roof Replacement in Doylestown | Proper Roofing" beats the reverse because the cut, if it comes, takes the brand.
The description is ad copy. Say what is on the page and why it is worth the visit: a number, a guarantee, a phone number, a reason.
Google rewrites titles that do not match the H1 or the content. The tightest way to keep yours is to make all three say the same thing.
