Keystone Sports Construction Custom Website Case Study
A Custom Platform Engineered for Performance
Keystone Sports Construction needed a website capable of representing far more than one product or service. The company designs, builds, renovates, and maintains athletic facilities across a wide range of sports, surfaces, and project types. A conventional template would have forced that work into a structure that was too shallow and too repetitive.
The new website began with custom wireframes and was designed around Keystone’s actual sales process, project portfolio, technical expertise, and extensive service offering. The result is a fully custom platform that gives the company room to tell a larger story while still helping visitors reach the right information quickly.
Project: Fully custom website design and development
Industry: Sports facility design, construction, surfacing, and maintenance
Focus: Wireframing, information architecture, custom interface design, video integration, project discovery, responsive behavior, and estimate generation
The Challenge
Keystone serves school districts, colleges and universities, municipalities, private facilities, athletic organizations, and residential clients. Those audiences may be planning anything from a synthetic turf field or running track to tennis courts, gymnasium flooring, fencing, lighting, bleachers, or a complete design-build facility.
The site needed to communicate several ideas at once:
- Keystone is a single-source partner, not simply a turf supplier.
- The company can manage design, engineering, construction, installation, and ongoing care.
- Its capabilities extend across indoor and outdoor athletic facilities.
- Its portfolio includes a large range of sports, clients, locations, and project scopes.
- Technical quality, player safety, performance, and durability are central to the work.
- Prospective clients need a clear route from research to an estimate request.
This combination created a substantial information-architecture challenge. The site could not feel overwhelming, but it also could not minimize the scale of the company.
Starting with Custom Wireframes
The project was wireframed before the visual system was applied. This made it possible to organize the content around visitor decisions rather than fitting it into predetermined template sections.
The wireframes established a consistent rhythm for:
- Large visual introductions
- Product and service overviews
- Sport-specific pathways
- Technical explanations
- Project examples
- Trust and standards content
- Repeated estimate calls to action
That framework carries across the homepage and the interior pages, giving a very large website a recognizable structure without making every page look identical.
Information Architecture
The primary navigation separates the company’s story into clear areas: About, Service Areas, Design & Build, Products, Services, and Our Projects. A persistent Request Estimate action remains visually distinct from the informational links.
The Products section helps visitors identify the physical facility or surface they need. The Services section supports visitors who are looking for replacement, maintenance, repair, or other ongoing work. Sport-specific pages create another path for users who begin with football, soccer, baseball, lacrosse, field hockey, tennis, pickleball, or multipurpose facilities.
This layered structure supports different ways of searching without forcing every visitor through the same funnel.
A Video-Led Homepage
The homepage opens with a large video presentation and the statement “Engineered for Performance.” The video was an important client requirement, so the surrounding layout was kept focused: a strong headline, a direct action, and a restrained interface that lets the motion establish scale and energy.
Because video and animated content require more loading time than static imagery, the experience depends on careful sequencing and a strong visual fallback. Once visitors move beyond the opening, the homepage shifts into clear facility categories, recent projects, standards, testimonials, and supporting information.
Visual Direction
The visual system uses performance black, field blue, turf green, and cool white. The dark navigation and video treatment create an athletic, high-performance tone, while blue and green help separate content and direct attention to actions.
Condensed, assertive typography reflects the built environment and gives headings a recognizable character. Real project photography carries much of the visual weight, showing fields, tracks, courts, gymnasiums, equipment, and finished facilities rather than relying on generic sports imagery.
Blue-and-green rules, gradients, corner details, and rounded action buttons are repeated throughout the site. These elements connect pages with very different content and make the overall system feel deliberate.
Key Page Work
Homepage
The homepage introduces Keystone through motion, then expands into the complete facility offering. Product cards, project spotlights, standards, testimonials, and direct contact sections give visitors several useful entry points without reducing the company to one type of construction.
Design & Build
The Design & Build page explains Keystone’s single-source approach and total project-management capabilities. The page establishes the value of coordinating design, engineering, construction, installation, and care through one partner.
Products
The Products page turns a broad offering into an organized visual directory. Visitors can move into sports fields, running tracks, tennis and pickleball courts, maintenance, athletic hardwood flooring, fencing, lighting, and stadium amenities from one consistent interface.
Sports Fields
The Sports Fields section gives synthetic turf and facility construction a more focused presentation. It supports visitors who need technical information while maintaining clear links to related services and an estimate request.
Project Portfolio
The project library is one of the site’s most important custom components. Filters allow visitors to sort work by project type, sport, facility, and client category. This turns a very large portfolio into useful proof and allows a prospective client to find examples that resemble their own project.
Contact and Estimate Pathway
The estimate pathway remains prominent in the main navigation and appears throughout the site. The contact page supports direct calls, facility information, and project inquiries without making visitors search for the next step.
Responsive Approach
The responsive system was planned as part of the custom wireframe work, not treated as a reduced desktop layout. Navigation condenses for smaller screens, content sections stack in a deliberate order, controls remain large enough to use comfortably, and project cards retain the information needed for meaningful browsing.
The video-led opening requires particular care on smaller devices. The mobile presentation prioritizes the headline and action while preserving the character of the motion-based concept.
The Result
The finished website gives Keystone Sports Construction a platform proportionate to the company it represents. It supports a large and continually growing body of services, products, sports, service areas, technical information, projects, and educational content without losing the direct path to an estimate.
Most importantly, the site feels specific to Keystone. The wireframes, page structures, project filtering, video presentation, navigation, and visual system were developed around the company’s real work rather than adapted from a generic construction template.
