What the Build Covers

Four things a law firm site cannot skip.

A page for every practice area

A firm that handles DUI, custody and estate planning needs three pages, not one list. Each is written for the question the client is asking, with the attorney who handles it and the next step on the same screen.

Attorney bios people actually read

Real photographs, bar admissions, the courts you appear in and the cases you take. Bios are the most visited pages on a firm’s site after the home page, and the ones most often left to a template.

Intake that reaches a person

Click-to-call on every screen, a short form that goes to the intake desk and a text option for the client who cannot talk. Every form and call is tracked back to the page that produced it.

Compliant by design

Disclaimers where the state bar wants them, no promised outcomes, no testimonial that breaks a rule, and a privacy notice that covers the form. The design is checked against the advertising rules of the bar you answer to.

What a law firm website has to do

What a law firm website has to do

A law firm’s site has one job: turn the person who found it into a consultation. That means the practice areas on the first screen, written in the words a client uses rather than the words a lawyer does; the attorney’s face and credentials one tap away; the office address and the counties served where the map pack can read them; and a phone number that works at nine at night. Everything else, the awards band, the firm history, the blog, supports those four things or gets cut.

The second job is to rank. A firm site is structured so each practice area is its own page with its own title, so the location pages name the courthouses and counties, and so the schema markup tells Google it is looking at a legal service with real attorneys. The site launches ready for the law firm SEO work rather than needing a rebuild for it.

Why firms choose SEO Locale for web design

Why firms choose SEO Locale for web design

Because the designer, the writer and the developer sit in the same office as the people who run law firm search campaigns, and have watched which attorney sites get the call. We have built for criminal defense, bankruptcy, elder law and litigation firms, and the criminal lawyer marketing work taught us what a prospect does on a firm site at 2 a.m.: reads the practice area, looks for a face, taps the number. The site is built in-house on WordPress, loads fast on a phone and is owned by the firm from launch, so no vendor ever holds the keys to your marketing.

Why a Firm’s Site Is Different

A prospect reads a law firm’s site the way they read a resume.

Someone choosing a lawyer is scared, in a hurry and comparing three firms on a phone. They want the practice area in the first line, a face and a bar admission under it, and a number that rings a person. A site that opens with a stock gavel and a paragraph about commitment to excellence has already lost them.

SEO Locale has been handling the marketing for our company, Sector Bay Laundry, for about 6 months. We moved on from another company, and the work ethic and responsiveness have been a night and day difference. I can't point out one specific person because the entire team as…

SEO Locale has been incredible to work with. We had been using another company before them, and the results were very poor so partnering with SEO Locale was a breath of fresh air. From day one the difference in communication, professionalism, and results was obvious. Nick and…

I had a really good impression of Nick and the team but unfortunately they significantly underdelivered on what was promised. With two days left after our first month all we had received was a list of keywords and a few articles that were almost certainly AI generated, about 20%…

FAQ

Questions about law firm web design

What attorneys ask before they commission a site.

Does the site comply with our state bar’s advertising rules?

Yes. Before design starts we read the advertising rules of the bar the firm answers to and build to them: disclaimers and “attorney advertising” notices where required, no promised outcomes, testimonials only in the form the rules allow and a privacy policy covering the intake forms. The firm reviews every page before launch, as a lawyer will want to.

Can each attorney have their own page?

Yes, and they should. Attorney bios are among the most visited pages on any firm site, so each gets a real portrait, bar admissions, courts, practice areas and a direct way to reach that attorney. Bios are built so the firm’s staff can update them without a developer.

How do intake forms and calls get to us?

Forms go to the intake person or desk you name, with the case type and county on the first line, confirmed to the client by text and logged with the page that produced them. Calls route to the office in hours and an answering service after, and every call is recorded against the page or keyword that produced it so you know which practice areas the site is winning.

Will the site rank for our practice areas?

It is built to. Every practice area is its own page with its own title and schema markup, location pages name the counties and courthouses, and the whole thing loads fast on a phone. The same team runs law firm SEO afterward if you want it, on the structure the site already has.

How long does a law firm website take?

Six to ten weeks for most firm sites, from the approved design to launch. Multi-office firms or sites with client portals take longer, and the proposal says how long. The pace is usually set by attorney review of the practice-area copy, which we plan for.

Who owns the site?

The firm does, entirely. Domain, hosting and code are in the firm’s name, every login is handed over at launch and the site can be moved anywhere. Support afterward runs month to month with no contract holding the site hostage.

The designers and developers who would build your law firm site, in their own words: how a build runs here and why it is all done in-house.

Book a Call

What a prospective client needs from a law firm website

The person on a law firm’s site is rarely browsing. They have been charged, served, injured or left something undone, and they are comparing firms from a phone in a parking lot. The site has to answer four questions in the first screen: do you handle my problem, who are you, where are you and how do I reach you now. Firms that answer those four get the consultation. Firms that open with a mission statement get the back button.

Practice-area pages that match the search

Every case type you take gets a page with its own title, written for the client’s question: what happens after a DUI arrest in this county, how long a custody case takes, what a chapter 7 filing costs. The attorney who handles that work is on the page with a photograph and a line about the courts they appear in. That page is what ranks for the practice-area search and what the client reads before calling.

Bios, reviews and proof

Attorney bios carry a real portrait, bar admissions, education and the kind of cases the attorney takes, in that order. Reviews pull from Google and the legal directories, shown with the rules your bar sets for testimonials. Case results, where the bar allows them, sit with the disclaimer the bar requires. A prospect is looking for reasons to trust you and reasons not to; the site gives the first and removes the second.

Features a law firm site needs and a template does not have

Most attorney sites are a legal-themed template with the firm’s name typed in, which is why they look alike and convert alike. A firm site built for the work has features a template leaves out.

  • Intake forms built for the desk. Short, with the case type and the county, routed to the intake person rather than a shared inbox, confirmed by text and tracked to the page that produced the lead. A secure form for documents when the matter needs one.
  • Call tracking and after-hours routing. A number that rings the office by day and the answering service by night, with every call recorded against the keyword or page that produced it.
  • Location pages for the courthouses. A firm in Montgomery County that appears in Bucks and Philadelphia needs a page for each, with the courthouse, the counties and the attorney who covers them.
  • Compliance baked in. Disclaimers, “attorney advertising” notices where required, no guaranteed outcomes and a privacy policy that covers the forms.
  • Schema markup. Legal service, attorney and FAQ markup so Google understands the firm, the people and the practice areas.
  • Speed on a phone. A prospect on a cellular connection outside a courthouse will not wait four seconds. Every build is checked against Google’s speed tool before launch.

Firms are built on WordPress unless there is a reason not to, because the firm’s staff can edit a bio or add a practice area without calling a developer, and because it is the strongest platform for the law firm SEO work that follows.

How a law firm website build runs

It starts with a free review of the site you have, read by a person: where it loses the prospect, what it is missing for the practice areas you want to grow, and what we would change first. The proposal that follows carries a fixed price for the build and a timeline, usually six to ten weeks for a firm site. There are no packages, because a two-attorney family law office and a twenty-attorney litigation firm are not the same job.

Design happens on a phone first, because that is where the client is. You see and approve the home page, a practice-area page and a bio before any code is written. Writing runs alongside design: we interview the attorneys, draft the practice pages in plain language and send them to the firm for the legal review a lawyer will want to do. Photography is arranged if you need it; stock portraits are the fastest way for a firm to look like every other firm.

The build is coded in-house in Montgomeryville, tested on real phones, checked for speed and compliance, and launched on hosting in the firm’s own name with every login handed over. Support afterward runs month to month, and the same team can take on the SEO and the paid search, so the site, the rankings and the ads are built by people who talk to each other.

Other Services

A site is the middle of the work, not the end of it. Web design builds it, law firm SEO and local SEO get it found for the practice-area searches, and paid advertising covers the urgent ones while the rankings build. For defense practices the criminal lawyer marketing page covers the whole mix.
